Great Blue Herons of the Sylvan Grove

Last year I had the extraordinary opportunity to photograph the heron rookery-- a heronry-- that is established in the Sylvan Grove, a wooded area next to our building, the Paul Allen Center at the University of Washington. From an upper story office some 50 feet above ground, I was able to follow this nest of herons. This photo sequence begins on May 25, shortly after hatching, and extends to July 13, 2010, when the young herons left the nest. Sadly, foliage growth has now blocked the direct view into any nests.
